The 36th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, an International Sailing Competition for the Royal Trophy, 2024, held at Beyond Resort Kata, Mueang District, Phuket Province.
On December 6, 2024, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana graciously presided over the awards ceremony for the winners of the 36th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, held at Beyond Resort Kata, Mueang District, Phuket Province. On this occasion, Her Majesty the Queen participated in the sailing competition as a member of Team Vayu in the IRC Zero class, with sail number THA72. As both the helmsman and strategist, Her Majesty demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, expertly navigating the vessel with precision and safety to achieve the designated course.
As for the competition results, Team Vayu, in which Her Majesty the Queen participated, secured first place out of a total of 10 races. This achievement underscores the strong spirit of competition and Her Majesty's dedication to upholding the legacy of sailing in Thailand, inspiring a new generation of sailors.
After the race, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen presided over the regatta’s royal awards ceremony held at the Beyond Kata Resort later in the day. His Majesty granted an audience to Mr. Thomas Arter Witcraft, who respectfully presented Her Majesty the Queen with the winner’s trophy on behalf of Team Vayu. The winners of the various categories also received their respective awards from Their Majesties.
The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta was first held in 1987 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It was organized to honor His Majesty, a highly skilled sailor and an inspiration to sailors around the world.
The 36th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta was held from November 30 to December 6, 2024. This year, a record-breaking number of participants from all corners of the world joined the competition, with a total of 158 boats and 514 competitors. The regatta featured a variety of categories, including large yachts, small boats, and vessels for disabled athletes, providing an opportunity for competitors from diverse backgrounds to participate. This event promotes cultural diversity and enhances the image of Thailand as a global destination for tourism and a center for water sports.
